There are literally thousands of books across the internet and on Amazon available ready to teach you how to make money online or how to start a business.

Some of those books contain information you can find in a hundred others that have come before it, some of them are a way to pick a successful entrepreneurs mind for under $20, while others are okay… but trying to sell you something.

So where does Starting From Zero by Fred Lam fall?

Quick Navigation

What is Starting From Zero?

How Much Does it Cost?

Is Fred Lam Legitimate?

How Does This 5 Step System Work?

Is it Too Good to be True?

What is Starting From Zero?

Starting From Zero is Fred’s audio-only book (you can only buy it from him in an audiobook format) that offers listeners the chance to discover the 5-step framework.

He uses to help his students create successful businesses after he had numerous business successes and failures in his own life. Essentially, it is a how-to of what he would do if he suddenly lost everything.

How Much Does it Cost?

The basic book costs just $1.99. At that price, you really don’t have much to lose, but I’ll come back to the cost shortly.

Is Fred Lam Legitimate?

Yes – he has a lot of experience online and he has genuinely taught a lot of people how to create their own successful businesses, so the information in the book is good.

The book also has a foreword by Robert Kiyosaki, author of the extremely famous blog (and surrounding products), Rich Dad Poor Dad.

As you can read about on the book’s sales page, Fred started his journey a little over ten years ago while he was working as a dishwasher.

He started a business selling physical products online, and within a year it did $4.8 million in gross sales.

However, at the end of that year the business collapsed due to bank errors, and he was left with nothing. He literally had to start again from scratch.

Which he did, and since, he has turned over approximately $50 million in his businesses.

So How Does This 5-Step System Work?

The system is straightforward to understand and available right there on his sales page. Essentially, the steps are:

1. Store Creation 2. Inventory Arbitrage  3. Targeted Visitors  4. Profit Multiplier  5. Rinse and Repeat

As you can see, Fred isn’t trying to hide anything or hold back any “secrets”, as so many people selling information online do.

This is one of the reasons why Fred is actually trustworthy – his method is proven by others, not only himself, he’s not trying to break new ground, he’s simply sharing the systems he has in place to create successful business after successful business for himself and his students.

Sound Too Good to be True? Well…

Before I go any further let me first say that Starting From Zero and Fred Lam himself are both legitimate.

There are no lies in the book and the information he shares is good – however, you should be aware that the book is a paid lead magnet.

What do I mean by this? The book is cheap ($1.99) and most people will drop two dollars for some good information, but once you’re in he is trying to sell you his courses, which are:

B.S Framework – $47

This is the first up-sell and BS actually stands for Brilliantly Strategic, not… well, you know. In this course, Fred teaches you his strategies for driving more traffic to your store.

eCompreneur – $147 for 3 months and $49 a month thereafter

Yes, this up-sell is a much bigger financial commitment for people than $1.99 or even $47, so what do buyers get?

eCompreneur is a 12-week course that guides you step-by-step through the process of getting started as an eCommerce entrepreneur, plus some resources and tools to help you automate your new business.

Influencer Masterclass – $197

This is the final up-sell Fred offers and it’s all about influencer marketing. Everyone knows how big influencer marketing is currently, and that’s not likely to go away any time soon. This course teaches you how to harness its power.

Is Starting From Zero a Scam?

No – Starting From Zero is definitely not a scam, but it is looking to sell you another $1,000 in products.

If you choose to, you can take the information in the $1.99 audiobook and find a way to apply it all on your own – and that is possible.

However, for those who are sold on Fred’s method will likely want to try one or all of Fred’s courses, and it is worth mentioning that the cost of his courses are designed to be affordable.

There a ton of other courses on similar topics out there who demand $1000-2000 upfront or $800 a month for three months to teach you similar information.

The Verdict?

Starting From Zero is a good and legitimate place to get great advice on starting a physical product ecommerce business.

Is he trying – at least in some way – to upsell you? Yes, but so is every other business guru out there!

With Starting From Zero, you have a chance to get inside Fred’s head, see the exact method he teaches, and either go off to figure it out on your own after or pay extra to have Fred guide you through step-by-step.

The upsells are there but he doesn’t pressure you to buy. I think for $1.99 and some time, you really don’t have a lot to lose.

As I mentioned in the previous section, there are plenty of other legitimate entrepreneurs who offer similar advice and courses for $1000-2000 or more, which is sometimes just too much for someone who is trying to get a fledgling business off the ground.

Ultimately, the book can’t take you from Zero – because the business he recommends (and his courses) require some seed money to get going, so if you’re looking for a legitimate way to start making money with no investment online, this isn’t it.

However, if you’re looking for a legitimate way to start your business with little money, Starting From Zero isn’t a bad place to start.
